Wasteland 3 Review friv game- Hand of Law

You can spend dozens of hours in Wasteland 3 by Friv2Online, and during this time you can fight a huge mechanical scorpion, meet communist robots, kidnap Reagan's AI, meet Santa, make friends with cannibals... What else, in addition to unique gameplay situations, the friv game can offer - we tell you in the review.

Once Wasteland laid the foundation of the post-apocalyptic genre in video games, and since then the franchise has not changed its chosen style: we are an adventure in the world after a nuclear war, where the remnants of humanity are trying to restore society with varying success.

You will be in charge of the Desert Rangers, an order that uses diplomacy and brute force to restore order in the wastelands, getting rid of bandits, looters and psychos that have flooded post-apocalyptic America.

At the very beginning of Wasteland 3, a group of rangers travel to Colorado to help the local ruler Patriarch, receiving in return a place for headquarters and resources. Upon arrival, the heroes are drawn into a political conflict between the head of the state and his offspring, who have rebelled to seize power. At the same time, other forces, more or less influential, are at work in the region. Whose side to take, by what methods to resolve conflicts, what future to choose for Colorado - it's up to you and only you.

And the friv game does not force you to rush through the main storyline. On the contrary, it sets common tasks - to find the three children of the Patriarch, and lets you get acquainted with the open world, where you will certainly be distracted by outside activities.

You won't be able to ignore them: already in the first big location, the city of Colorado Springs, the rangers will be given a mountain of tasks, during which they will have to make difficult decisions and inevitably spoil relations with some of the factions. Here you can also learn more about the balance of power in the area, meet colorful personalities and make yourself known: after all, the rangers are a new but powerful group, with which the others will have to reckon.

And this city, where you can stay for a good ten hours, will be only the starting point in a large-scale journey. Soon you will be able to leave the walls of the city, going into the wastelands on the armored "Kadyak". The powerful vehicle overcomes kilometers of snow-covered, cratered and stacked with crumbling skyscrapers plains, and heroes every now and then receive radio requests for help and stumble upon random events. Occasionally, the game requires you to choose between two activities, and by favoring one, the heroes will be deprived of the opportunity to react to the other, which is bound to have plot consequences.

Some areas on the global map are hidden by radioactive fog, which means that you need to install the appropriate protection on the "Kadyak". Sometimes a trip is interrupted by an ambush - and then you have to deal with the raiders in a short text quest, choosing options to resolve the conflict. Once I had to pay for my greed: in one of the areas roams a huge roboscorpion, near which there are valuable resources - an attempt to steal them unnoticed failed and led to a long and hard battle with the boss.

Having found a point of interest on the world map, you can go to it and, after loading, find yourself in a new location - a very small, for a couple or three battles, or a huge, with a dozen new tasks. And quests can be intertwined, lead to other locations, offer several solutions. And I'm not talking about the big mission to staff the ranger base, for the fulfillment of which you will have to look for people all over Colorado.

Such a vast adventure simply must be exciting, otherwise there is a risk that gamers will abandon it after a few hours. The developers tried to make the friv game world not want to leave as long as possible: they filled it with a huge number of jokes and references, made the passage variable, added a lot of secrets.

Such a concentration of delirious situations you have not met in any friv game about post-apocalypse. Here sectarians, who worship a huge statue of Reagan, call themselves Nancy in honor of the second wife of the 40th president of the United States, and those who have wronged society, are called Jane - by the name of the woman with whom Reagan divorced. Here you can meet a cyborg chicken, tame it and make it a formidable companion in battles. Here, a gang of Latino clowns annoys the local black market boss dressed in a Dracula costume. Here you can arrest Brian Fargo... no, Faran Braigo, owner of a gambling establishment in Colorado Springs. It's where you can create an "asshole" character and a character with an "iron ass" - that's the name of the skills that affect answer choices in dialogues. You can supply people to cannibals and dine with them on fresh human meat. You can quarrel with every faction, kill all the story characters, quarrel with your partners... in general, like any good CRPG, Wasteland 3 impresses with the variety of possibilities.

Since we're talking about the game genre, it won't be superfluous to tell about the role-playing system. It is familiar to everyone who has played computer role-playing games and, in particular, the previous editions of the Wasteland series.

So, at the beginning of the adventure we are offered to create a couple of characters - create or choose already ready, with a backstory and distributed points of characteristics and skills. As you progress through the game, you will be able to hire new recruits, creating them from scratch, or take a squad (which can hold up to six people) of characters encountered in the friv game world.

The parameters of each character are divided into three branches. The first is physical characteristics: it is the strength that allows you to wear heavy armor, observation, which affects the speed and range of detection of mines and secrets, charisma, which depends on the amount of experience gained, and so on.

The second branch is skills: the ability to handle weapons, pick locks, work with computers, fix toasters, suck up to NPCs, trade, disarm mines, and many others. The third branch, talents, depends on the second: these are special perks that give passive and active bonuses.

With each new level, characters get points of characteristics, skills and talents, which can be distributed at your discretion. Of course, it is desirable to make the team as diverse as possible: invest in small arms for one fighter, make another a specialist in sniper rifles, the third handed a shotgun. Do not forget about auxiliary skills like first aid, taming animals or lock picking.

Many actions in the friv game, whether it's a dialog or an attempt to fix the generator, pass skill checks; and not for a particular character, but for everyone in the group. Therefore, you can not pump, for example, the skill "iron ass" two fighters at once: enough to make a master in this area only one member of the group. This makes the development of heroes more convenient, but to cover absolutely all the skills will not be possible even fully staffed squad.

Interestingly, even if you successfully check a skill during a conversation, the conversation may go in the wrong direction: if you answer too rudely, get ready for a fight!

Battles in Wasteland 3 are turn-based, also familiar to those who have played CRPGs and tactical games. Actions such as running around the arena, firing shots and using gadgets are used up by ODs, and the initiative is the same for the whole squad: that is, the player's squad moves first, then the AI squad - or vice versa, if the enemies have noticed the rangers earlier.

In battles you can interact with the environment (for example, explode a tank near the enemy), use character talents, throw grenades, use first aid kits, resurrect fallen squad members, and when a special skill is charged (after several successful shots) - to attack a certain part of the enemy's body (as in V.A.T.S. from Fallout) with an additional effect: a hit on the hands will reduce the enemy's marksmanship, and a shot at a fuel tank behind the marauder's back will lead to an explosion.

Each weapon consumes ammunition and has weaknesses and strengths. Characters have two weapon selection boxes: in one you can place, for example, a machine gun for hitting live targets, and in the other - a cannon that shoots energy charges for more efficient killing of robots. Or you can pair a pistol with a sniper rifle to shoot off the bandits who came close to you. The more powerful the "gun", the more OD you need to fire: a submachine gun will allow you to attack twice per turn, while a minigun will deal huge damage, but will empty your action points in no time.

In addition, the rangers have a lot of auxiliary gadgets in their arsenal: grenades of several kinds, controlled robots... even ordinary snowballs are used! And weapons and armor can be modified, improving their characteristics.

Based on the above, it may seem that we are facing an exemplary RPG. To some extent it is true: Wasteland 3 is a good, exciting game that you want to immerse yourself in. It combines a huge world with exciting quests, black humor, impressive variation and interesting combat.

However, there are some drawbacks, which sometimes make you want to turn the game off. First of all, very frequent and long loading times. Even installed on NVMe SSD, Wasteland 3 takes a minute to load locations, and considering that there are a lot of transitions between areas, I had to keep my smartphone nearby and flip through my newsfeed while the next level was launched.

Secondly, moving around the locations is quite inconvenient: there is no quick movement between them and within them, so you have to mark on the map the point where the rangers should arrive, lead the cursor to the mark and click to make the heroes run there. The camera can't be zoomed out to a bird's-eye view, so navigating the area can sometimes be difficult.

In addition, the consequences of decisions are not always obvious (however, this can be put both in the minuses and pluses of the project), characters love to run on mines and happily fly into the fire, gamepad control is inconvenient, the friv game often starts to slow down a lot on an even place, and inventory management is a silent horror. Some problems will be solved in future patches, others will remain in the game forever, complicating life.

Nevertheless, as mentioned above, Wasteland 3 is a great RPG that is definitely worth paying attention to if you are a fan of the genre. As for the flaws... where aren't there any nowadays?
